NEW LIFE TO AN OLD ADDRESS

So many of you have jogged past it. So many of you have driven by it. So many of you have called wanting to buy it. So many of you have watched it go from hole in the ground to stunning Cape Cod. And we’re thrilled after all those months of you seeing what it became on the outside to finally show you the inside of this Prairie Village new build! But first for a little history. Our dear, sweet client raised her family in the house that once sat here! This wasn’t a case of finding a “tear down” and scraping it. No, not even close. This, in the words of our client, is a story of 3 musketeers – [...]

A KITCHEN REMODEL LONG IN THE MAKING

This month will probably go down as one of my favorite months of the year. I’ve had (or have coming up) six photoshoots of some amazing projects we’ve been working hard on the past year. There is nothing I love more than getting professional pictures back! So last week I shared my own kitchen and house, and up today I get to share another set of dramatic before and afters! So, first for a little background…the homeowners had lived in this Kansas City house for over 20 years, and the kitchen was the last of all the rooms to be on the receiving end of a remodel. It was certainly a long time in the making! And of course, when [...]

BROOKSIDE TUDOR REMODEL: THE MAIN FLOOR

If you missed it, last week we introduced this before and after post about our kitchen. As for the rest of the house, the story stayed the same: my design magazine dreams came crashing against hard, cold reality and the resulting rooms landed somewhere in the middle. First up – the living room. Or shall I say dining room?! When you are married to a professional piano player and he insists on bringing a grand piano into your little tudor home, rules get broken. Rooms gets swapped. Living rooms get furnished with dining room tables. Traditional floor plans go out the window. John often reminds me that his piano is the only thing which he still possesses from the time he met me. Not [...]

BROOKSIDE TUDOR REMODEL: THE KITCHEN

***See the rest of the house’s before and after pictures here! For those not as familiar with our company, the one writing this here blog is the darling daughter (ha!) of Jim Scovell. Growing up in the industry and being around so many inspiring remodels my entire life has given me quite the champagne appetite (on a beer budget..boo hoo). So, when my husband and I bought a Brookside house in need of some major updating back in 2013,  I had lofty ideas of magazine-worthy rooms. But of course my reality is such that I have to choose kid-friendly over designer-friendly and college funds over frameless glass shower doors. It’s a hard knock life. (But, watch out marble slab backsplashes….one of [...]

Old Sagamore Whole House Remodel

Some projects have special tug on my heart and this is for sure one of them – for a variety of reasons. It’s in the neighborhood where I grew up. It’s a modified floor plan of the house I grew up in. And it’s a house that Scovell Wolfe first remodeled way back in 1994! Oh, and the couple is darling. And their taste is bomb (aka amazing). So, yeah, I pretty much really like this project. Sadly, it turns out my vision is less than bomb. When I came back from shooting some progress pics last week I realized that most of my pics were out of focus. Not so bomb at all! I guess a trip to the [...]

What’s Been Going On???

So there was this one time when most of what I did here at Scovell Wolfe was think about beautiful interior spaces, put together designs online and peek in on fabulous ongoing projects around town. But that time is no longer! Pretty obvious, though, huh? It’s been radio silence here on the blog. In early July, I (Kylie) stepped into the role of bookkeeper and it turns out that that’s a pretty busy job! Who’d have thunk it? Every few weeks I steal away with my camera and run around like a mad woman quickly shooting all of our projects. And then I get back to the office, get super busy and forget to even put the pics on the computer! [...]

Progress Report – June 2015

It’s blazing saddles out there and our guys are laboring away on some great summer projects. I stopped by a few this morning and thought I’d share a glimpse into what exactly we’re up to! Especially for all of you that drive southwest of the Prairie Village shops on Tomahawk Road. I can only imagine you’re anxious to see just what this new custom home looks like on the inside. And I tell you what – it will blow you away by this deceivingly traditional Prairie Village Cape Cod. Total homerun. We’re also busy tearing into the front of the house I wrote about a few weeks ago. (Click through to see a before and after tour of the other remodels we’ve completed on [...]

The Face of this Mission Hills Home Gets a “Face” lift!

One of our favorite clients is back on our map this Summer. We’ve already done some incredible, award-winning projects for this family, and we’re thrilled to come back for another round. Beginning this week, we will be upgrading the facade of this stunning home with the help of our clients’ architect John Wind (who drew this other award-winning Scovell Wolfe project back in 2013). The plans not only include new windows but turning the existing upstairs window locations, which currently sit very close to the roof, into dormers with window seating inside. The entire front entry gets reworked, as well as the addition of copper gutters, etc. There are many other odds and ends being tweaked, changed or upgraded, but I’ll spare you the details! [...]

Our House on the 2015 Remodeled Homes Tour

I sure hope that you’re reading this after having seen this incredible house in person! If not, there’s still tomorrow – Sunday – from 11-4! We had a huge turn out of people today for the NARI Remodeled Homes Tour. They all went crazy over these homeowners’ impeccable taste and classic style. (To get the look of this house, click here for a post on where to find similar light fixtures, furniture, etc!) And of course the cameras were a’ clickin! But, out of respect for the homeowners, we asked that people pocket their cameras and come to our website and snatch the professional pics instead! So here’s the promised virtual tour. But first, a brief little background on the house. This [...]

A Garage Conversion to Rival All Garage Conversions

I’m going to make a personal disclosure here and say that I happened to have known these clients prior to them becoming clients. And I (Kylie) happened to have nannied for their children on numerous occasions. So I did my fair share of laundry in what was then their unfinished basement garage. I walked up those basement steps way more than once. I can still remember the rumble of the garage door going up as you stood in the kitchen. But in all that time traipsing through that space I never, ever, ever dreamed that it could turn into anything spectacular. It was, after all, just a basement garage! – like so many in Kansas City. Well,  I went by last week to finally get [...]
