Tudor Revival: The Master Suite Reveal

Ok, it’s time. It’s the long-awaited master suite reveal! And when I say long, I mean it’s been since January 14, 2015 that I first began writing about this stately Brookside Tudor. What? Yes, really that long. Like I mentioned in the last post, if I’ve learned anything about this process it’s that while Scovell Wolfe knocks out 90% of the transformation, the last 10% (draperies, furnishings, artwork) is a slow, personal and sometimes luck-driven final push. How many antique store visits before you finally stumble upon the perfect antique Oushak for your hallway? Nobody knows. How many paintings will you see before you lock in on the one that you’re certain you can gaze at for decades and never tire of? [...]

High Drive: The Kitchen

I thought I’d pop in and share our plans for the kitchen. It’s funny how I absolutely live for designing homes, but when it comes to my own, I’m paralyzed! You’d think that working here at Scovell Wolfe, I’d know just the kind of client I’d want to be and not cause any problems for the project manager. Instead, I’m fickle, unorganized, and indecisive! In other words, I’m lovely to work with But with all my might, I’ve sure tried to hone in on some selections lately. I’ve put together a mood board to try and steer my wandering eyes back to the plan.   COUNTERTOPS: Still a bit indecisive here. Shocking, I know. I’m torn between Maccabeus Quartzite which I’m [...]

The House on High

Ok, so today is the day I finally get to share pics of our new house! I’m referring to this project as the ‘House on High’ both as a nod to the street name and the simple fact that my husband and I both feel like we are living on a high as we dig into renovating this place. And let’s be honest, there’s also a purely pragmatic reason for the nickname. We’ve moved so much over the last 10 years (like this house which I posted about last month) that it’s not enough to say, “oh you remember at the Brewer’s house” yada yada because no one ever knows which house from over the years that I’m speaking about! So we’re almost always referring [...]

NEW LIFE TO AN OLD ADDRESS

So many of you have jogged past it. So many of you have driven by it. So many of you have called wanting to buy it. So many of you have watched it go from hole in the ground to stunning Cape Cod. And we’re thrilled after all those months of you seeing what it became on the outside to finally show you the inside of this Prairie Village new build! But first for a little history. Our dear, sweet client raised her family in the house that once sat here! This wasn’t a case of finding a “tear down” and scraping it. No, not even close. This, in the words of our client, is a story of 3 musketeers – [...]

A KITCHEN REMODEL LONG IN THE MAKING

This month will probably go down as one of my favorite months of the year. I’ve had (or have coming up) six photoshoots of some amazing projects we’ve been working hard on the past year. There is nothing I love more than getting professional pictures back! So last week I shared my own kitchen and house, and up today I get to share another set of dramatic before and afters! So, first for a little background…the homeowners had lived in this Kansas City house for over 20 years, and the kitchen was the last of all the rooms to be on the receiving end of a remodel. It was certainly a long time in the making! And of course, when [...]

Old Sagamore Whole House Remodel

Some projects have special tug on my heart and this is for sure one of them – for a variety of reasons. It’s in the neighborhood where I grew up. It’s a modified floor plan of the house I grew up in. And it’s a house that Scovell Wolfe first remodeled way back in 1994! Oh, and the couple is darling. And their taste is bomb (aka amazing). So, yeah, I pretty much really like this project. Sadly, it turns out my vision is less than bomb. When I came back from shooting some progress pics last week I realized that most of my pics were out of focus. Not so bomb at all! I guess a trip to the [...]

What’s Been Going On???

So there was this one time when most of what I did here at Scovell Wolfe was think about beautiful interior spaces, put together designs online and peek in on fabulous ongoing projects around town. But that time is no longer! Pretty obvious, though, huh? It’s been radio silence here on the blog. In early July, I (Kylie) stepped into the role of bookkeeper and it turns out that that’s a pretty busy job! Who’d have thunk it? Every few weeks I steal away with my camera and run around like a mad woman quickly shooting all of our projects. And then I get back to the office, get super busy and forget to even put the pics on the computer! [...]

Progress Report – June 2015

It’s blazing saddles out there and our guys are laboring away on some great summer projects. I stopped by a few this morning and thought I’d share a glimpse into what exactly we’re up to! Especially for all of you that drive southwest of the Prairie Village shops on Tomahawk Road. I can only imagine you’re anxious to see just what this new custom home looks like on the inside. And I tell you what – it will blow you away by this deceivingly traditional Prairie Village Cape Cod. Total homerun. We’re also busy tearing into the front of the house I wrote about a few weeks ago. (Click through to see a before and after tour of the other remodels we’ve completed on [...]

The Face of this Mission Hills Home Gets a “Face” lift!

One of our favorite clients is back on our map this Summer. We’ve already done some incredible, award-winning projects for this family, and we’re thrilled to come back for another round. Beginning this week, we will be upgrading the facade of this stunning home with the help of our clients’ architect John Wind (who drew this other award-winning Scovell Wolfe project back in 2013). The plans not only include new windows but turning the existing upstairs window locations, which currently sit very close to the roof, into dormers with window seating inside. The entire front entry gets reworked, as well as the addition of copper gutters, etc. There are many other odds and ends being tweaked, changed or upgraded, but I’ll spare you the details! [...]

Lovely Grills for Delicious Grilled Food.

I asked my husband what I ought to blog about this week. He quickly affirmed the male stereotype. “GRILLS!” he exclaimed! Write about grills! Spring is in the air. The weather is looking up. Doors and windows are opening up. And everyone is moving outdoors for dinner. Because everybody loves to grill, right? Wrong! I am not a griller. However if given the right arrangement, by golly, you might just find me out there 7 nights a week. So here we go, per my husband’s request, a compilation of grills I could get down with. And grilled food I could get down with, too… What do you think? Did an outdoor kitchen just get bumped to the top of your remodeling wish list? [...]
