Jim Scovell
President
Founding Partner
Jim is the co-founder with John Wolfe of Scovell/Wolfe & Associates, Inc. and serves as the company's president. In 1989 the two partners began buying homes in the greater Kansas City area that they considered to be in bad shape and in need of some real tender loving care.
After completing nine or ten speculative rehabs they could no longer resist the constant pressure from friends and clients alike to restore their personal kitchens or build them a new room. Thus began the formalization of the company as it exists today and they have never looked back.
Jim's primary responsibility is to oversee the sales and production departments of the company and is the person that you will first meet in most cases when calling in to set up an appointment. Jim will meet with the prospective client and help determine what the most appropriate next step in the remodeling process might be.
Given his experience in the industry and the fact that he is also a broker in Missouri and Kansas it is not uncommon for him to bring to the prospective clients attention "after-market" considerations with respect to what they are thinking. In other words, he will tell you what you need to hear and not what he thinks you want to hear.
Jim is a 1978 graduate of Rockhurst University with a degree in marketing and economics. His first job out of college was as a commercial loan analyst for Commerce Bancshares, traveling from small town to small town with the task of reviewing the loan portfolio at each bank to determine the strength of the loan and the credit worthiness of the borrower.
During this period and with the experience gained in analyzing businesses he helped co-found a successful video production company still in business today.
In the mid-eighties Jim left the banking industry to pursue a career in real estate primarily consisting of buying and renovating rental properties in and around the Rockhurst and UMKC area of town. Jim's family owns a shopping center in Springfield where he grew up and consequently has been exposed to real estate nearly all his life.
When Jim and John met and decided to join talents they began buying larger more expensive potential speculative rehab homes. Also, during this period Jim earned his real estate license in both Missouri and Kansas and was named "Rookie of the Year" in 1993 for the Eugene D. Brown Real Estate Company.
In 1998 he advanced his license status to Associate Broker in both states. As all of this was taking place and Jim and John were in the process of creating one of the most premier remodeling companies in the Kansas City area.
In 1999 Jim was appointed by the mayor of Mission Hills to serve on that city's Architectural Review Board and in 2005 was named Chairman of that board.
He is a long time resident of Mission Hills and will celebrate 28 years of marriage to his wife Mindy in July of 2006. Jim and his wife Mindy have three incredible children one of which is still at home. Jim enjoys watching and participating in sports and is an avid reader. So for whatever your residential needs from wanting to buy, sell or simply remodel, Jim is the person you will want to contact.
